Lufthansa Technik offers the next generation of infotainment with nice® HD

2011-10-10 10:00

Thanks to its open architecture, nice® HD is highly configurable and flexible, allowing Lufthansa Technik to offer a wide number of cabin equipment packages – from lighting and environmental control to the integration of third-party solutions such as satellite communications and TV, 3rd party audio/video devices or cameras.

“Customers can experience innovative ways to control cabin, communications and entertainment functions with our third generation User Interface (UI). The system incorporates an animated Graphical User Interface (GUI) with an integrated scroll wheel and a touch screen,” said Andrew Muirhead, Director Business Unit Innovation, Lufthansa Technik:

“The nice® HD system is a continuation of Lufthansa Technik’s commitment to excellence in providing innovative and reliable CMS solutions for the business jets market segment”, says David Crossett, Manager Marketing and Sales of the Business Unit Innovation.

The scroll wheel allows the user to simply roll a ’small barrel’ with a thumb or finger which corresponds to the animated GUI. Once the selection is chosen you can simply push to select the function. Rounding out our UI, Innovation also offers nice remote for iPhone® / iPod touch® / iPad®* – a wireless application for nice® HD system control. The application is available for download on the App StoreSM.

The major additions to the original nice® system include the following:

  • 1. Readiness for streaming of Hollywood studio approved DRM/Encryption protected HD video to each seat location
  • 2. Introduction of a new customizable generation 3 Graphical User Interface with animated graphics, feedback and video overlays
  • 3. New interactive hybrid Touch Screen/Scroll Wheel control system
  • 4. Consolidation of many nice® system components into fewer, smaller and lighter LRUs with more functionality
  • 5. Increasing network bandwidth and capacity with Gigabit Ethernet to each seat
  • 6. Integration of consumer PEDs (personal electronic devices) such as smart phones or tablets
  • 7. Continually improved reliability with HALT/HASS testing in development and production
  • 8. Remote System Access for maintenance and product support
  • 9. Development of wireless content distribution to personal devices – smart phones and tablets
  • 10. Development of a standalone Wireless IFE System with content service

The advanced nice® HD system is an up-date of the original nice® system and is based on the same wireless and wired Ethernet technology that is flying successfully on aircraft such as the Bombardier Challenger 300, Challenger 605, Global XRS/5000**, Boeing Business Jets and Airbus Corporate Jets. Last month, the 200th nice system was delivered to Bombardier.
